National Locums, the award-winning medical recruitment agency, has expanded its mental health division.
With mental health problems now the most pressing health concern in the UK, particularly among 20-to-29 year olds, the Milton Keynes-based company is responding to increasing demand for professionals to help combat the issue.
The company has recruited psychiatrists and mental health nurses for several years, but the expanded division will have a stronger focus on psychologists – clinical, forensic and counselling – as well as psychotherapists, and other professionals working in the mental health area, including psychological wellbeing practitioners, occupational therapists, social workers and family therapists.
Says National Locums managing director David Cook: “It is recognised that health issues caused by stress, anxiety and depression have put increasing pressure on the NHS and the independent sector, and a demand for trained and qualified mental health specialists. Every year, it is estimated that one in four people in the UK will experience mental health problems, and 1.2 million anti-depressant prescriptions are issued. Therefore, there is a demand for a significant new level of resource and expertise, and we have expanded our mental health division to help meet that need”.
