Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The Opportunity

George Eliot Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to join our dedicated Women & Children’s Division. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive district general hospital committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

We welcome applications from consultants with broad general obstetric and gynaecology experience, with opportunities to support specialist interests where appropriate.

ASAP – 13/08/2026


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-led care across obstetrics and gynaecology services

  • Participate in antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology outpatient clinics

  • Contribute to elective and emergency theatre lists

  • Support labour ward cover and obstetric on-call rota

  • Provide clinical supervision to junior medical staff and contribute to MDT working

  • Ensure high standards of clinical governance and patient safety


Essential Requirements

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise

  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or within 6 months of CCT)

  • Recent NHS consultant or senior-level experience

  • Excellent communication and team-working skills

The Women & Children’s service at George Eliot Hospital provides comprehensive maternity and gynaecology services to the local population, with a strong focus on safety, compassion, and continuous improvement.
