Locum SPR Ophthalmologist – Milton Keynes University Hospital

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Locum Specialty Registrar (SPR) in Ophthalmology to provide service cover within the Ophthalmology department.

This locum role will involve supporting the delivery of high-quality ophthalmic care across Emergency Eye Clinics, Laser Clinics, and Intravitreal Injection Clinics. The successful candidate will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team within a busy and well-established ophthalmology service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical cover in Emergency Eye Clinics, assessing and managing acute ophthalmic presentations.

  • Undertake and support laser procedures as part of ophthalmic treatment services.

  • Deliver intravitreal injection clinics, ensuring safe and efficient patient care.

  • Participate in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of a broad range of ophthalmic conditions.

  • Work collaboratively with consultants, nurses, and the wider ophthalmology team to maintain high standards of patient care.

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to local governance policies.

Essential Requirements

  • GMC registration with a licence to practise.

  • Previous experience working at SPR level in Ophthalmology.

  • Competence in managing acute ophthalmology presentations.

  • Experience with intravitreal injections and ophthalmic laser procedures preferred.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable

  • Prior NHS experience.

  • Independent experience in laser treatments and injection clinics.
