Job Overview
An opportunity is available for a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist to provide comprehensive ophthalmology cover at Glangwili General Hospital. The successful candidate will deliver daytime emergency eye care services within the RACE clinic and provide out-of-hours non-resident on-call support.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide daytime clinical cover in the RACE Clinic from 09:00–17:00, Monday to Friday, while also being on-call.

• Deliver non-resident on-call cover from 17:00–09:00 during the week.

• Provide 24-hour on-call cover across the weekend as second on-call for ophthalmology services.

• Manage the full spectrum of ophthalmic emergencies presenting to the hospital.

• Undertake emergency ophthalmic surgical procedures when required.

Essential Requirements

• GMC registered and listed on the Specialist Register for Ophthalmology.

• Ability to independently manage acute ophthalmic emergencies.

• Competence in performing emergency surgical procedures including:

  • Globe rupture repair

  • Penetrating eye injury management

  • Treatment of endophthalmitis

  • Other urgent ophthalmic interventions as required.

• Experience providing comprehensive emergency eye care cover.

Working Pattern

• Monday – Friday

  • 09:00 – 17:00: RACE Clinic (while on call)

  • 17:00 – 09:00: Non-resident on-call

• Weekend

  • 24-hour non-resident second on-call cover
